HALF-HOUR DRAMEDY PILOT
Jojo Williams is living her middle-aged life practically invisible...just as she prefers. However, when triggered by a work environment ripe with sexual harassment, Jojo, an assault survivor, begins hallucinating that Pumpkin, a younger, sassier version of herself, is real. Pumpkin helps Jojo break from the emotional cocoon she’s created for herself, repair her damaged psyche, and reclaim her identity.
An intimate and grounded series, "anima...sity" lightens its subject matter with engaging characters and piquant dialogue. At times humor is laced into poignant moments, but, as"anima...sity" is unabashedly a "female-gaze" show, Jojo’s assault is never exploited and we don’t see flashbacks of it.
What we do see is a guarded middle-aged woman being confronted-literally-by her younger selves to address her past and rebuild herself.
